Description
I love spotting butterflies and moths and am always drawn to the beautiful colours. This unique brooch is inspired by the beautiful magpie moth, whose caterpillars are almost as striking as the moth. My moth brooches are made almost completely of thread: I ‘draw’ onto water-soluble fabric with my sewing machine, creating an interlocking network of thousands of stitches, choosing my colours to best capture the spirit of the butterfly. The fabric is then washed away leaving a delicate looking but surprisingly tough thread butterfly. I add wire and bead antennae and a brooch back to complete my piece. Each piece I make is unique and created with care and love.
This brooch measures around 7 x 5 cm.
